With a sense of proportion, but with great consistency, Western Sweden's top address in yacht building is completing its model programme. From next summer, the new Hallberg-Rasssy 412 will offer discerning owners in the twelve metre segment one more choice.
Until now, Ellös has only produced the HR 40 with a centre cockpit; it will continue to be built. However, it will now be joined by the sportier and less long-distance-orientated aft cockpit version. In terms of its design and appearance, it follows the HR 372, which was presented a year ago and won the European Yacht of the Year award.
It is, if you like, Magnus Rassy's answer to X-Yachts' strategy of gaining a foothold in his segment with well-sailing cruising boats in the XC series.
In fact, the lines drawn by master designer Frers promise excellent sailing characteristics. The boat with its high three-saling rig, powerful main and only slightly overlapping genoa should be able to reach speeds of over 8 knots even in 12 knots of wind.
The wide range of layout options is remarkable: Two or three cabins, one or two bathrooms - future owners can choose between four basic configurations alone. In addition, Hallberg-Rassy offers a wide range of options, from a retractable flat screen to a washing machine.
As usual, the price has been calculated with confidence: Ex shipyard, the yacht costs approx. 435,000 euros with the basic equipment.
The HR 412 will celebrate its premiere in August 2012 at the in-water boat show at its place of origin in Ellös on the Orust peninsula. Interested parties who order quickly can expect delivery in summer 2012.
